Homework challenge

Homework challenge
For two weeks my classroom is doing a second homework project.
This time we are doing it  based on a milk bottle.  I am doing milk bottle bunting which is really cool to make. The most challenge part was to cut the fabric and the milk bottle. The most easiest part was to tie fabric onto  the string. The project was to be finished by the next two weeks. But mine had  to be in  on Friday. The project started on Monday and ended on Monday. Here are some photos.

The Earthquake in Kaikoura

The Earthquake in  Kaikoura
The 14 of November at 12:02 am  is when a 7.8 magnitude earthquake hit Kaikoura. Some people left their homes and they got robbed at the same time when they were out of there homes.

From the big earthquake that New Zealand has just had there was broken sewage pipes and tanks houses, paddocks, fields. When I went to school the next day we heard all about it photos and pieces of deceptive writing.

Kaikoura is sitting  on multiple fault lines. On some of the photos there was a rip between the fault line it was cool but it was not cool for the person's farm that was on.

Ngatea primary school had felt the earthquake but it did nothing to us.
Wellington felt the earthquake  and some of the buildings are in danger of collapsing.

This means for New Zealand a lot of recovery and support from others that aren't in danger. I hope that Kaikoura goes back to normal after a year or so. I think that this earthquake would go down in history.

Calf club 2016

Calf club 2016
This was my first year of doing calves. Wow, I really liked doing them  and I would like to do them again next year.My Calf's name is Skittle. My favourite part was when my calf sat down for the first time I was there. It was a long day and I got six ribbons I got 3rd in obstacle, Merit in leading, 2nd in rearing and handling and I also got Reserve Champion and in Beef Type I got 4th. It was unexpected when my calf and I got merit because he was doing so good until the gate he wouldn’t start again.  I wish that my calf did better so I could go to group day. Wow, wouldn’t that be cool and then I could go to the Rural show that sounds even better.
Here are some photos

Learning in the making 2016

Learning in the making 2016
Learning in the making is lots of workshops that have other people Running or participating in. Learning in the making gives you a chance to work with others that you haven't worked with before.
My Favourite workshop was perler bead  because it was tricky putting the beads on the frame  because people kept bumping the table and they came off the frame.  I learnt how to iron the beads and not melt them too much or they will easily break into pieces.  I helped  others  learn how to use an iron. I had so much fun and would like to do it again.

Holiday Recount

Holiday recount
The first week of the holidays was boring getting up early to do my calf and then going home and watching movies. My favourite movie that I watched would be Blank Check. A little boy and his dreams came true.

The second week of the holidays I had Kate over because Brooklyn went to Karlys house for her birthday party. It was fun because there was nobody there to annoy us. On the last Saturday of the holidays we were celebrating Nana’s 60th birthday. It was at a winery that my auntie  and uncle are getting married at. It was cool because we made a cake and it was a surprise to Nana and know we're going to get pay back for get her a cake.

What have you enjoyed the most this term and why?
  • Doing the tapa art cloth because I have never done it before and I was excited to be able to do one.
  • Finishing our first book from book club and starting a new one. I really wanted to finish my book because it was term three and we still Hadn’t finished our first book.
  • To be able to learn what is the area and perimeter of shapes because I have not learnt this before and I was surprised when I learnt about area and perimeter.
What has been challenging this term and why?
  • It was hard to learn about area and perimeter because I have to know times table but I’m getting better and better.
  • Ripping up paper for my mosaicing because it starts to get boring and your hands get  tired.
  • MDR because I need to learn my roman numerals and my division but I have started to learn them.
What are you looking forward to next term?
Swimming and the year six bike ride. I’m looking forward to swimming because I have been practicing in Thames and I would like to go and swim back in the Ngatea pool.I’m looking forward to the year six bike ride because I love biking and there are no year fours and five around.

                                        My Learning.Me

For our Impact we are going to improve the Whetu Art area by making a tile splashback.

Where are you at with your Impact project? Elizabeth and I have just sketched the pukeko and silver ferns on to our pieces of paper. We have also got Mrs Taaffe’s approval.

What have you accomplished so far? We have accomplished measuring the wall, getting the paper to the right size, sketching.

What are your next steps in order to complete your project/projects by the Term 4 deadline? Our next steps are to get some tiles and start to break them into little pieces, then glue the tiles on to the pieces of paper that you we have sketched and where you think the pieces could go.

What are you enjoying? I am enjoying learning about how to make a piece of mosaic art.

                            Polystyrene Homework  Challenge

  • How did you get your idea? Well I had some help from mum to come up with my idea. We thought fairy lights and then she said “ Hey we could put the fairy lights on the old fruit bowl”.

  • Who helped you?  Mum helped to get the messy bit done. Mum cut the big bits into smaller bits so I could cut them into hearts and stars.

  • What was the process - how did you make it? First we had to plan, next we started to cut the polystyrene into little bits and  then into   hearts and stars. Once I had finished cutting we started painting. The stars  looked really cool once they have been painted. Next I put glitter on the hearts and stars. Then I put the lights around the fruit bowl. I made a hole in the  hearts and stars so we could thread the lights through the hole. Lastly you turn the lights on and there's your finished project.

  • What did you think of  your end product?  I was proud of my finished product. Next time I think that I could do better.

  • When you looked at everyone else’s, which ones did you like and why? I liked Cruz’s because he did a burger and fries. I thought that it looked really cool and maybe I could do something like that next time.

Cross Country

This week was Cross Country I think I did really well in the races.
I got 7th out the  10  year old girls. I felt quite excited about doing the Cross Country. Training helped me throughout my netball season and my cross country. My goal for next year would be to get in the top five runners to be able to make it into Hauraki Plains. I would have made it in Hauraki Plains this year but there were only ten of us and they decided that we'll do top 6 and I was so close to making it in. Well better luck next time to me to make it into Hauraki plains.

This week I am  going to blog  a little bit about my speech.
My speech  is about Ariana Berlin.
Why did I chose this topic? I chose my topic because I watched a real movie based on her and I was inspired. I was sad. I was happy. All my emotions came out and I felt her story was special.
Was it easy or hard to write and research my topic? Yes it was easy but a bit challenging Why was it challenging? Well I had to find out more of Ariana Berlin.  Did I change my topic? No Why? Because I stuck to my gut feeling, because I liked it so much it was easy to write  and I didn’t have any other ideas.
How am I feeling about presenting my speech to my home room? Good and nervous, I don't like talking when everyone is watching me.
What do I think is the hardest part of presenting and writing a speech?Reaching and going in fount of every body.

This week I am reflecting  on my Term 3 goals.
“My Numeracy and Literacy goals for this term are, Numeracy I would like to learn my hundredths timestable”. “Literacy, Be able to add more dispersive words in my writing.” Keep on going to Joss to learn more words and understand what they mean.
My other goals I have are to be able to finish my work and and try to achieve my other goals by working by myself and not talk alot when I’m working.
I think that I’m on  track to achieve your, goals I just need to put my head down and get on with what I need, to be doing.
What do I need to do to achieve my goals? Sometimes I just need to work by myself. My favorite part of this year would be doing art and training for cross country. What I’m looking forward to is going back to swimming.

The Olympics.
This weekend is the opening ceremony of the 2016 Olympic Games.
The olympics are being held in Rio which is the Capital of Brazil. This weekend the olympics are starting I can't wait to see the rowing, swimming, Beach volleyball and lots more.
Facts about Brazil:
Brazil is the largest country in South America. The name Brazil comes from a tree named brazilwood.Brazil is the only country in South America that speaks Portuguese.
Handball, Shooting, Synchronized swimming and Water polo, Fencing, Taekwondo are the sports that aren’t the most popular sports.  There are 69s ports are represented in the Olympics.
What I’m looking forward to watching is synchronized swimming because I like to see all the dance moves they do, and Gymnastics .  because I would like to learn some more moves to try and see if I could try to do the flips that they do.

Wellington

The first week of the holidays my family went down to Wellington to drop off Jordan at Taratahi. Taratahi is a learning institution based on farming it has dairy, beef and sheep, sharing, butchering and chainsawing. Before we dropped him off we went to a restaurant called iBeria it was a nice little restaurant on the corner. When we got to our house, that we were staying in we thought that it looked really ugly but, that was just the outside it had plants on the roof and on the posts. When we walked in the house it was like heaven it was so cool. When you walked up the stairs the lights would come on. These are my top activities that we did in Wellington, go karting, laser tag, movies and shopping. I really like going to Wellington and I would like to go there again.

Interesting
I think that is nice to have a quiet zone and in that having a little teacher space when the teacher isn't in there there is no talking at all. Last year there was the hub next to the quiet zone.
My minus is that The Year 5 should do SRA’s.
I found it very interesting that we are able to do book club.
I like being a Year six Buddy and have  little kids  to teach how to link  and how to publish a blog post.
